Here at Tea From The Manor over half of the work force are women so we wanted to have a chat to our lovely ladies for International Women's Day. We asked Janet and Lisa a few questions so you can get to know them a little better. 



Please could you tell us about your role at Tea From The Manor?



JANET: Hello My name is Janet Mizen and my job title at Tea from the Manor is (GOD) General office Director which the proprietor James Green thought would be a great name for me 😊

My Role within the Company for the past 4 years has been setting up New customers, invoicing for delivery’s and looking after and making sure everything runs smoothly within our office environment as well as sourcing and searching for new products to run on our on line shop (which I love). I also work really closely with James Green our proprietor we are so passionate in what we do bouncing ideas off one and other it’s a great place to work and there is always time for a good cup of tea.

 

 

LISA: My role as admin assistant at Tea From The Manor means I definitely have a varied and interesting role within the company.  Not only do I help out in the office with the administration and logistics, I am also responsible for helping to look after our website and social media pages, which is always a lot of fun and means I am constantly learning new things.

 

 

 

What is your favourite Tea From The Manor tea?




JANET: My Favourite Tea from the Manor Tea is Green Mint and also Peppermint and Liquorice they are both so refreshing and both as good hot or cold.








LISA: Being surrounded by so many different teas each day, it really is hard to choose a favourite.  In the mornings I am quite rigidly in the habit of kick starting my day with a cup of our English Breakfast blend.  I must admit though that throughout the rest of the day at work, I do enjoy trying out and experimenting with the different teas that we have.  Recently, I have very much favoured our liquorice and peppermint tea, the taste is just amazing, so delicious and refreshing.  I honestly can’t get enough of this infusion at the moment.

Why do you like working with TFTM?:



JANET: What I like about working at Tea from the Manor is the customers I can honestly say I have never had a difficult or bad customer everyone is so nice and friendly it makes your day go so quickly  as we have the most amazing customers both online and wholesale customers. We have a great ethos at Tea from the Manor treat every customer like you would want to be treated yourself and nothing is too much trouble it helps that we are such a friendly happy team.

 

LISA: I love being part of the team at Tea From The Manor, there is always something new and interesting going on and there is such a great vibe to working with such a fantastic team.

Our Green Promise

Did you know that most high street tea bags can contain up to 25% plastic?

One cup can hold up to 11.6 billion microplastics* and that can be ingested serval times every day! We're always up for trying new blends but tea and plastic is not one we'll be tasting any time soon!

So why is there plastic in some company's teabags? A plastic polymer is added to give the teabag shape and allows hot water to be added without the tea bag falling apart. 

Although there has been a lot of talk about plastic in tea bags in the media recently, since Tea From The Manor began (ten years ago) we have always been committed to giving you biodegradable, compostable tea bags containing NO plastic whatsoever.

All our pyramid tea bags are made from Soilon, which is a material made from corn - starch, so there is no crude oil present. The string is made from the same bio plastic as the tea bag, the tag is paper and coated in the same material. The whole thing can compost together.

If you are looking for an eco-friendly tea bag don't just check for biodegradable tea bags (as almost everything is biodegradable - even some plastics). Take a look and see if they are compostable!

 

We are now looking at our packaging and want to move to packaging made from Natureflex, this will be our next eco-friendly step once our current stock has been used.

Along with our concern for the planet we are also concerned for its people. We import our tea from all over the world and ensure the tea plantations we buy from are good places to work. One of the plantations we buy from is an estate in Malawi. Here there are four clinics for the people in the area to use. There is also a school where there are 914 students.



We are also proud to say this tea plantation has Fairtrade status, something which was very important to us. 'Fairtrade sets social, economic and environmental standards for both companies and the farmers and workers who grow the food we love." **



Another brilliant green tick for us was that all the wood used for the fires to dry the tea is sustainably grown on the estate. Take a look at the journey from leaf to cup here.


As a small family business we want to be as eco-friendly as possible and make sure the hard workers who pluck our tea are looked after. We believe if we can get this right, your cup of tea will taste that much sweeter knowing you're caring for the planet and its inhabitants.
